Las zonas costeras se encuentran expuestas a una serie de procesos naturales y antropog茅nicos entre los que se encuentra el fen贸meno de la inundaci贸n durante temporales. El origen de este fen贸meno es el aumento del nivel del mar resultante de la suma de la marea astron贸mica ymeteorol贸gica y el remonde del oleaje (runup). Estre proceso es muy frecuente en las zonas costeras del litoral espa帽ol, pudiendo originar da帽os con un alto impacto econ贸mico. Por ello, Iberport Consulting S. A. ha puesto en marcha un proyecto de I+D+i para avanzar en el conocimiento de este proceso, contando para ello con financiaci贸n procedente del Subprograma Torres Quevedo del Ministerio de Econom铆a y Competitividad, cofinanciado por el Fondo Social Europeo.

The research project 鈥淒esign and adaptability of conventional floating docks for the construction of breakwaters and low reflectivity quay wall caissons鈥 (CADIMA, 2009-2011), funded by the Spanish Government, has been developed by the consortium specially created by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), the construction company cyes and the consulting engineering company Iberport.
The main objective of the CADIMA project is to obtain the objective guidelines for the design and the adaptation of conventional floating docks for the construction of low reflectivity caissons for low reflectivity
 vertical breakwaters and quaywalls. This aim is achieved through two main lines of research: (1) the study of technological alternatives of design and construction processes of low reflectivity caissons by means of floating docks and conventional procedures and (2) the analysis and physical experiments of the anti-reflective effectiveness of the different alternatives regarded as technically feasible.
The main activities carried out by the consortium are the following:

     Study of anti-reflective caissons

     Atlas of Spanish experiences in the construction of anti-reflective structures type

     2D Small-scale (1/40) physical experiments conducted in the wave flume of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and large-scale (1/2) physical experiments in the Centre for studies and experimentation on public works (CEDEX)
     Development of research patents for the construction of low-reflective caissons of low-frequency using conventional floating docks.
     Papers published in national and international congresses

One of the main objectives of Iberport is to make a contribution in the training of young professional generations, in order to promote their integration into labour market. Iberport, has a traineeship programme in the company aimed at university students, implemented through collaboration agreements with the Polytechnic University of Valencia and Catholic University of Valencia.

What is the purpose of these traineeship programmes?

  • Training of the university students encompassing practical and theoretical training, in order to prepare them for professional practice. The main purpose is to train professionals with a real vision of problems and its interrelationships, who are conscious of the reality of their social environment.
  • To give students the chance to combine theoretical expertise with practical training and to join the job market after fulfilling the traineeship.

What do these programmes consist of?

The main task consists of achieving the knowledge of how a Consulting engineering company works through direct experience with the work team of Iberport Consulting, S.A. To achieve this aim, the following works are developed by students:

  • Students learn the codes and standards necessary to carry out projects of civil engineering, coastal engineering and installations as well as related to environmental issues.
  • Students are involved in carrying out construction projects and technical reports.
  • They learn the specific software used in the different analyses performed in the projects.

The main objective of R&D and Innovation project MUCAR is to study and develop the necessary structural improvements to reduce wave reflection in the conventional quay wall caissons.
The project MUCAR also includes the small-scale tests for the anti-reflective-type structure of quay-wall caisson, which allows to analyze the effectiveness of wave-energy dissipation in the design quay.
Finally, the necessary adaptability to carry out the most effective process to construct the anti-reflective caissons is studied.
